Billy Gail's Cafe

The pancakes here measure a full 14 inches and hang off the edge of the plate, and that is not tourist talk, that is just the order. This old filling station cafe out past Silver Dollar City has been the local answer to the breakfast question for decades, with a second location now open at Branson Mill on Gretna Road.
Insider tip: One pancake honestly feeds two people, so split it. On weekends, be on the porch before 8 am or plan to wait with everybody else.

Clockers Cafe
$Downtown Branson
A narrow little diner on Commercial Street where the pancake batter is made from scratch every morning and the meat is hand cut and hand breaded in back. It opens at 6 am, which tells you exactly who it was built for.
Insider tip: Grab a counter stool with the regulars and order the biscuits and gravy. Doors close at 3 pm, so this is a morning stop, not an afternoon one.

Danna's Bar-B-Que & Burger Shop

A Branson family operation that smokes its meat the old fashioned way and sauces it sweet, with locations in Branson, Branson West, and Kirbyville. The Hwy 165 spot is the one locals point you to on the way down toward Table Rock Dam.
Insider tip: Pulled pork sandwich with a side of onion rings is the move. Remember they are closed on Sundays.

Gettin' Basted

This crew won a world championship on the competition barbecue circuit, then opened a restaurant on the Strip so the rest of us could taste why. They cook hot and fast over 55 gallon drum smokers, and you can taste the difference in the bark.
Insider tip: Burnt ends sell out, so come at lunch instead of late evening if that is what you are after.

Billy Bob's Dairyland

A little old school burger stand on the Strip that has been flipping double cheeseburgers and pulling malts for more than three decades, celebrating 35 years in 2026. It still looks like a 1960s drive in inside because nobody ever saw a reason to change it.
Insider tip: Double cheeseburger and a hand dipped malt, and add the foot long chili dog if you brought an appetite.

Mel's Hard Luck Diner

Home of Branson's original singing servers: everyone who brings your burger is a working professional singer, and they take turns performing between refills of sweet tea. The 50s diner food holds its own, but the voices are the reason you linger.

Fall Creek Steak and Catfish House

Since 1991 the servers here have thrown warm yeast rolls across the dining room to anyone who raises a hand, and the hand cut steaks and fried catfish carry the rest of the meal. A waterline break sidelined their Hwy 165 building, so for now the whole show, flying rolls included, runs inside Pasghetti's on the Strip while they work toward reopening at 997 Hwy 165.
Insider tip: Raise your hand for a roll, then ask for the cinnamon pecan butter. Check their site before you drive to Hwy 165, the temporary Strip location is where the food is.

White River Fish House

A lodge style restaurant built on a floating barge right on Lake Taneycomo at the Landing, run by Bass Pro, the Ozarks outfit from just up the road in Springfield. Boaters literally tie up at the dock and walk in for dinner.
Insider tip: Ask for a table on the water side around sunset, or arrive by boat and use the dock and dine slips.

Farmhouse Restaurant

Serving downtown Branson since 1976, this is where you go for fried chicken, country fried steak, and mashed potatoes that taste like a church potluck in the best possible way. Tourists find it eventually, but the locals never left.
Insider tip: Finish with the blackberry cobbler. It opens at 7 am, so it also works as a solid downtown breakfast before the shops open.

McFarlain's Family Restaurant
$$Shepherd of the Hills Expressway, IMAX complex
Ozarks farm cooking inside the IMAX Entertainment Complex, with fried green tomatoes, pot roast, and pies made in house, fresh off a 2026 remodel that added the family friendly Front Porch lounge. The staff plays every bit of the hospitality completely straight, including the pranks.
Insider tip: Ask the host about the rising table if you have a good sport in your party: one table slowly lifts while you eat and nobody on staff will admit a thing.

The Cinnamon Nook (formerly Grandma Ruth's Cinnamon Rolls)

The bakery Branson knew for years as Grandma Ruth's quietly took a new name, but it is the same location, the same family recipe, and the same gooey centered rolls they have baked since 2010. They have added hard served ice cream, which pairs with a warm roll better than it has any right to.
Insider tip: Go in the morning for a classic roll straight from the oven. They bake in small batches and do sell out.

Mr. B's Ice Cream Parlor

A tiny retro scoop shop in historic downtown that has been the after dinner walk destination for years. Order at the counter, take it outside, and you are two blocks from the Lake Taneycomo waterfront.
Insider tip: Hours run from midday into the evening, so make it your afternoon or post dinner stop, then walk your cone down to the lakefront.
